FDA Commissioner Robert M. Califf began testifying at 11:00 A.M. before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on a nationwide shortage of baby formula.  Among those scheduled to testify are officials at the FDA directly involved in food safety and executives from the nation’s three largest baby formula manufacturers — Abbott President Christopher Calamari, Gerber Vice President Scott Fitz and Reckitt President of Nutrition Robert Cleveland.  Abbott announced Tuesday it had reached an agreement with the FDA to release limited quantities of EleCare hypoallergenic specialty formulas to relieve the shortage, offering the product free of charge to children in need. It also said it will restart production at the Sturgis facility on June 4 and will prioritize EleCare production, with product release to consumers around June 20.  Califf Testimony.  Chairman Pallone Memo.
