The Senate reconvened at 10:00 A.M. and is expected to spend most of today voting on nominations.  Specifically, the Senate will vote on the Motion to discharge the nomination of Lisa DeNell Cook to be a Member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, from the Banking Committee and will also vote on confirmation of the nominations of Nani A. Coloretti to be Deputy Director OMB and  C.S. Eliot Kang, to be Assistant Secretary of State.

The Senate Judiciary Committee officially set Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court for a panel vote on April 4th.  Chairman Dick Durbin of Illinois, as expected because of committee rules, announced the delay of one week for the vote. That next meeting, set to start at 10 A.M., gives the 22 members of the panel the opportunity to make statements explaining their vote on Jackson’s nomination.  Jackson is expected to get the backing of the 11 Democrats on the committee. If all Republicans vote against the nomination as expected, and there is a tie vote, Democrats will have to take an additional procedural step before the nomination can move to the floor for a final confirmation vote.  Either way, Democrats expect to have that final confirmation vote later next week on April 8th. In the full Senate, the Democratic caucus can stick together and confirm Jackson to the Supreme Court without the help of any Republicans.  No Democrats have signaled opposition to Jackson’s nomination, and no Republicans have said they would support Jackson’s nomination.

The House meets at 3:00 P.M. after a ceremony for the late Dean of the House,  Don Young, Republican of Alaska, who died earlier this month as one of the longest-serving members of the House, who is lying in state Tuesday in Statuary Hall.  The House is expected to take up two votes under suspension of the Rules, H.R. 6865 – Don Young Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2022 and H.R. 2954 – Securing a Strong Retirement Act of 2022.
