The Senate is now in recess for the Veteran’s Day Holiday and will reconvene at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, November 15th and will hold a cloture vote on Executive Calendar #401, Graham Scott Steele, to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Institutions.
The House is in a committee work week with no votes and will also reconvene on Monday, November 15th, with votes at 6:30 P.M. Only a few committee hearings are scheduled for this week, including a Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands legislative hearing at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
Late Friday night, the House passed the bipartisan infrastructure legislation on a 228-to-206 vote, with 13 Republicans bucking their party leadership and joining all but six Democrats in support. The vote on the larger social safety net and climate change bill was delayed, with a half-dozen moderate-to-conservative Democrats withholding their votes until a nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analysis could tally its price tag. While President Joe Biden will sign the infrastructure bill this week, the safety net and climate package will likely take weeks longer. The House will have to wait for the CBO score and the Senate may pass a different version of the plan, which would require another House vote. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) has set a Thanksgiving target to pass the larger Democratic bill.
