House Republicans on Tuesday passed a package to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol (CBP) through 2029, marking a victory for President Donald J. Trump and GOP leaders. The nearly $70 billion budget reconciliation package that had stalled in the Senate for weeks passed the lower chamber by a vote of 214-212. Representative Kevin Kiley (I-California) joined all Democrats in opposing the measure. Representative Tim Walberg (R-Michigan) briefly cast a no vote, leaving the tally at 213-213 — meaning the bill would fail — with no votes to spare. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) and House Appropriations Committee Chair Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma) huddled with him on the floor, and he changed his vote, allowing the bill to pass. The bill now heads to the president’s desk, where President Trump is expected to sign it into law.
The Senate will convene at 10:00 A.M. and is expected to vote on Confirmation of Executive Calendar #745 Anthony J. Powell, of Kansas, to be United States District Judge for the District of Kansas as well as a Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #765 Brock Dahl, of Maryland, to be Legal Adviser of the Department of State.
At 12:00 P.M. the House is expected to begin work to Complete Consideration of H.R. 7892 – No Aid for Ghost Students Act of 2026 as well as H.R. 8464 – Stopping Fraudulent Payments Act and H.R. 8312 – Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act.
