While negotiations continue on the final text for the bipartisan deal on border security measures that are designed to shake loose a multi-billion-dollar aid package for Ukraine and Israel, the Senate is expected to continue voting on nominations today. The Senate will take up the nomination of Jacquelyn D. Austin to be United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina, Cristal C. Brisco to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Indiana and Gretchen S. Lund to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Indiana.
While leadership is saying they won’t hold a vote on the border-foreign aid proposal this week, negotiators and leadership signaled Tuesday night that they still believe they are close to a deal and hope to release final text this week. Even if they can get something through the Senate, it could still face a heavy lift in the House, where a growing number of conservatives are wary of any additional Ukraine aid.
The House remains in recess until next Monday, January 29th.
