The House will reconvene for votes at 6:30 P.M. with only eight days scheduled before the August recess, which begins next Friday. Among items scheduled for this week are the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization and a couple of less-controversial agency spending bills. One would fund the FDA and the Agriculture Department, the other military construction and the Department of Veterans Affairs. On the Senate side, the upper chamber plans to start debate on Tuesday on the National Defense Authorization Act which it’s aiming to finish by August recess. Whatever passes the Senate will include no contentious abortion provision, unlike the House, which used its version to reverse Biden administration policy on reimbursing travel costs for service members seeking abortions.
For today, the House is expected to consider several bills under suspension of the Rules including S. 111 – Providing Accountability Through Transparency Act of 2023, H.R. 1418 – Animal Drug and Animal Generic Drug User Fee Amendments of 2023, H.R. 813 – Global Investment in American Jobs Act of 2023 and H.R. 752 – Securing Semiconductor Supply Chains Act of 2023.
The Senate will reconvene at 3:00 P.M. tomorrow and is expected to take up the nomination of Rachel Bloomekatz to be United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit and the Motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 2226 – National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024.
