Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) says the Senate is on track to vote Tuesday evening on a package clawing back approximately $9.4 billion in congressionally approved spending, making the announcement shortly after locking down Senator Mike Rounds (R-South Dakota), a key vote.  The Senate will  vote on both the motion to discharge the rescissions package out of the Appropriations Committee, and on the motion to proceed to the legislation on the floor.  The package, which narrowly passed the House in May, would cull back funding from Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio, and would also formalize many of the cuts to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), a foreign aid arm of the government that was heavily targeted by DOGE earlier this year.  Unlike many bills in the Senate, Republicans can pass the package with a simple majority of votes.  The two procedural votes on Tuesday would advance the package and then allow the Senate to move forward with an amendment process to shore up GOP support for the bill ahead of its final vote.

For today, the Senate will also consider the nominations of Executive Calendar #65, Luke Pettit, of the District of Columbia, to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, Executive Calendar #134, Anthony J. Tata, of Florida, to be Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness and Executive Calendar #184, Joseph Edlow, of Maryland, to be Director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services- Department of Homeland Security.

The House will begin consideration of H.R. 4016 – Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2026 and take up one Postponed Suspension, H.R. 1717 – Communications Security Act.
