While the House is now in recess until Tuesday, September 2nd, the Senate will wrap up its week by taking up Confirmation of Executive Calendar #131 Matthew Lohmeier, of Arizona, to be Under Secretary of the Air Force, Confirmation Executive Calendar #87 Richard Topping, of Ohio, to be Chief Financial Officer- Department of Veterans Affairs and a Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #292 Emil J. Bove III, of Pennsylvania, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit.
The House on Wednesday adjourned a day early, ensuring its members will get a significant head start in their districts compared to the Senate. At the same time, senators — who are scheduled to depart for recess at the end of next week — are waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) will obey President Donald J. Trump’s orders to scrap all or part of the annual monthlong break to process the almost 150 outstanding nominees awaiting confirmation.
